The best team-building activities and experiences in Brisbane

18 JANUARY 2023

They say teamwork makes the dream work, and there’s no better way of turning delegates into team players than with Brisbane’s wide range of team-building activities and experiences.

From kayaking along the scenic Brisbane River to opportunities to learn new skills, encounter ancient cultures and experience a collective adrenaline rush, this city has a way of bringing people together – so it’s time to get your delegates out of their comfort zones, start fostering a culture of collaboration and connection, and enjoy a real breakout session in Brisbane.

Nothing bonds people together like a challenge. Riverlife offers delegates a chance to conquer their fear of heights together while abseiling down or scaling up the raw cliff face of Kangaroo Point, one of Brisbane’s most imposing landmarks.

For those who like their team-building to be a little calmer, there’s no better place to view the city skyline than from the comfort of a kayak. Your delegates will love travelling side-by-side down the Brisbane River, encouraging and motivating each other as they go – and maybe even challenging each other to a race.

With a range of food and drink options available to elevate the experience, Riverlife’s guided experiences and adventures are an unforgettable way for delegates to explore Brisbane.

Queensland Tennis Centre

Located along a leafy section of the Brisbane River in Tennyson, the Queensland Tennis Centre has played host to the biggest names in the sport, from Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova to Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal – and your team could be next.

Just 15 minutes from the CBD, Queensland Tennis Centre will give your guests a chance to work on their serve and channel their inner champion, with up to 23 courts available for your group to take over.

Story Bridge Adventure Climb

Now this is character building. Adrenaline junkies will love climbing Brisbane’s iconic Story Bridge, while those who don’t enjoy heights will push through boundaries and learn a lot about themselves while being urged on by their fellow climbers.

As one of only a handful of bridge climbs of its kind in the entire world, the trek allows for nervous climbers to conquer their fears and for a group to come together and inspire each other to succeed. Oh, and the view from the top of the bridge is pretty spectacular, too.

Victoria Park

Once a private golf course, Victoria Park has now re-opened as Brisbane’s biggest new public park in almost 50 years. Located just two kilometres from the CBD, Victoria Park is still home to a putt putt course, driving range, bistro and function centre, and now the massive park also offers scavenger hunts run by local team-building gurus Banana Life.

Winning the scavenger hunt will require your team to take part in everything from archery and graffiti art to mini-golf, and when it’s all over, they’ll get to come together and watch hilarious videos of themselves in action.

Cooking schools

Add some zest to any team outing by taking part in a cooking school. There’s plenty around Brisbane to choose from, and the best part is relaxing with wine in hand and enjoying the fruits of your labour at the end.

Your guests can master international flavours at The Golden Pig and Lumiere in Newstead and Vanilla Zulu in Teneriffe; learn the secrets of perfect pasta at Salt Meat Cheese in Newstead and Angelo’s Pasta Classes in Fortitude Valley; and even cool down with their own artisan gelato at La Macelleria in Teneriffe.

Cocktail classes

They say a person’s drink of choice says a lot about them, so a cocktail class is a great way for your delegates to learn something about each other – while also learning some new skills to take home with them.

Learn to shake it ‘til you make it with cocktail masterclasses at the supremely stylish Saville Row and The Parlour in Fortitude Valley, Mecca Bah in Newstead, and The Emporium Hotel’s Piano Bar in South Bank.

River to Bay

Brisbane is Australia’s nature capital, and River to Bay invites your delegates to explore it to the fullest. This is their opportunity to take a day trip to beautiful Moreton Bay and discover a hidden underwater paradise. As they snorkel around shipwrecks, swim alongside local marine life and walk with wallabies, there’s no doubt these unique experiences will bring them closer together.

If your delegates just want to sample some of Brisbane’s famed craft beers in style, then you can always take them on a River to Bay pub crawl, with jet boats ferrying passengers to renowned breweries like Brewdog and Sealegs.

Escape Rooms

Turn your delegates into detectives with a Brisbane escape room experience. Relying only on their quick wits, their incredible powers of deduction, and the unique skills each of them brings to the table, your guests will have a limited time to get themselves out of a tense situation when they try to escape from Escape Manor and Fox in a Box in the CBD, Mystic Escape in South Brisbane, Escape Hunt in West End and Puzzled Room Escape in Holland Park West.

City Winery

City Winery, the first inner-city winery to open in Brisbane in over 150 years, gives your delegates the chance to put their stamp on a truly unique creation – their own team-made barrel of wine.

They can pick the grapes out of the vineyard themselves, or you can skip that step and go straight to stomping on the fruit, manually pressing the grapes, and bottling your very own wine. The barrel will mature at City Winery, and when it’s almost ready for bottling, your team will be invited back for blending workshops.

If getting the band back together later isn’t an option, you can take part in a wine blending workshop now, where delegates will learn how to achieve the perfect taste and texture profile before being given their own custom bottle of wine to take away.
