A total of $250,000 is available, with eligible businesses able to apply for up to $5,000 to invest in the areas where it can make the biggest difference – from equipment and professional services to training and education.

Now in its sixth year, the program is designed to give women in business both practical financial support and access to a dynamic community of other founders and experienced mentors.

Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner said Brisbane women were building businesses, creating jobs and adding to the strength of the local economy.

"This program has now backed 263 Brisbane businesses with $1.25 million and helped support 533 local jobs, and it is just getting started," Cr Schrinner said.

"A grant like this arrives at exactly the right moment, whether it goes towards new equipment, training or the professional advice that helps a business take its next step.

"But it is more than a cheque. Every recipient joins a 12-month program with mentors and other founders who have been where they are.

"If you are a Brisbane woman with a plan for your business, back yourself and apply."

2024 recipient The Cheeseboard, founded by Wendy Downes, used its grant to purchase an electric butter churner, helping the Albion-based artisan cheese business expand its production capability.

“The grant gave us the opportunity to invest in equipment that has made a real difference to our business. The electric butter churner has helped us increase our production capability and supported our growth,” Wendy said.

“But while the investment has really helped, I think one of the greatest benefits of the Lord Mayor’s Women in Business Grant is the business development program.

“It gave me the skills to better manage my business and the opportunity to step away from the everyday demands of business and family to learn, meet other women in business and think more strategically.

“For a small business, having that investment at the right time can make a huge difference.”

Since launching in 2021, the program has invested $1.25 million in 263 Brisbane businesses, supporting women in diverse industries and 533 jobs across the city.

Applications for the 2027 Lord Mayor’s Women in Business Grant are now open and close on Monday 5 October 2026. Recipients will be announced in early February 2027.

Beyond financial support, all recipients will benefit from a 12-month development program, delivered by BEDA through the Brisbane Business Hub and supported by the Commonwealth Bank, to help build business capability and make vital connections.
